STORY
'The North Yorkshire fishing town of Whitby comes under threat when an unconscious drug dealer with a suspicious rash is discovered below the sea wall on the weekend of the town's biggest event of the year :
THE WHITBY GOTH WEEKEND!! The dealer regains consciousness to discover that the rash is in fact a parasite that has latched onto his bones and is feeding off him and growing under his flesh into something resembling your common Mussel. He escapes in a panic and so Detective Louise Bloom must give chase sparking a series of horrific events as the parasite threatens to spread throughout the town. After enlisting the services of out of town marine biologist Cockburn, there to research the local mollusc population, Lou must try and discover what these tiny monsters are and stop them all the while 20,000 goths are descending on the place.' |
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
I wanted to tell a tale about the death of the seaside town. The metaphor of these shell-like parasites gave me the opportunity to do so whilst also allowing me to tap into some real primal fears of invasion, whether that be from people from out of town, new business or an actual bodily invasion that you can only scratch at but never remove until it kills you.
